Witness says pastors bribed him to accuse Kayanja

This story from the UG Pulse is starting to sound like rumors I have been hearing for months.

One of the boys who was allegedly sodomized by pastor Robert Kayanja testified that he was used by pastor Solomon Male, Martin Sempa , Micheal Kyazze and pastor Bob Kayiya and a state house employee Anitah Kyomuhendo who was allegedly sent by Janet Museveni.

Robson Matovu confirmed court that pastor Kayanja has never sodomized him, he was just received a bribe from the said pastor to talk false information on him.

Matovu said that he was supposed to be paid 56million shillings after giving false information to Kayanja and out of 56 he received only 160,000shillings to buy a new phone which he handed over to police after pulling out from the deal.

Minister Nsababuturo was also behind the deal witness testified.

The Pastors are accused of conspiracy to cause injury to trade of pastor Robert Kayanja.

It’s alleged that the duo between December 2008 and 2009 at various places within Kampala conspired to cause injuries to the personality reputation and to trade of pastor Kayanja alleging that he was engaged homosexual practice.

  1. Of course, the truth is that ‘sexual dishonesty’ is the best way to transmit HIV – and one of the things that can so promote such dishonesty is … yes, that’s right, homophobia.

One might almost say that Ssempa could be regarded as an ‘HIV risk factor’!

  2. Richard, Ssempa has insulted various heads of state and made false allegations about George Soros and lecturers at Makerere University… in public… not once, not twice… lots of times. It looks like this time his irresponsible hunt for a worthy boogieman and his finger pointing games have backfired on him… it was bound to catch up with him eventually.

  3. Correction: the cash from Canyon Ridge was for fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS, rather than specifically for the relief of those infected.

Anyway, here again is the statement from Canyon Ridge when they finally decided that ‘enough was enough’: http://www.canyonridge.org/default.aspx?page=8539

(It should be noted that the recent increase in HIV transmission in UG is attributed principally to marital infidelity, not homosexuality. ‘Maazi’ and I have already agreed on this point.)

  4. According to Ssempa, “Homosexuality is the most efficient method of spreading HIV”. He made that assertion during an interview on national television… with that kind of misinformation dribbling out of his mouth, I can understand why Canyon Ridge would seek a more sensible partner in the fight against the spread of HIV.

  5. Anteros

    No surprises there.

In defence of Canyon Ridge (of which I am no ‘friend’, I might add): they really did try very hard to get Ssempa to ‘mend his ways’. The money they gave him was meant for the relief of those with HIV/AIDS. One wonders how much of that cash was used for its intended purpose …

Sick, really, when you think about it.

  6. The whole things is extremely fishy – it does appear that people like Ssempa have a ‘track record’ of ‘dissembling’ and smearing other.

On the ‘false testimony’ front: there was also the Oundo affair. Oundo was, he now claims, paid to say in March 2009 that he ‘recruited’ youngsters (and ended up on the “‘Rolling Stone’ hang them” list, I believe, along with the late David Kato).

  10. I’ve just arrived in Buganda Rd court 4 the Pastors’ case. The second witness Mukisa Samson has taken 2 the dock 2 give his account. We await what happens.

  13. Of course, in THIS case, Ssempa might be ‘as innocent as a lamb (who would like to send others to the slaughter?)’ – that’s for the court to decide.

  14. But, when one thinks about it, it is hardly surprising that Matovu is ‘nervous’! Look at the Oundo business: Oundo is ‘bought’ by the ‘anti-gay Gestapo’ (the operation masterminded by Obergruppenfuhrer Ssempa, with the help of those nice dollars he used to receive from the likes of Canyon Ridge*?), but then recants and, juts over a year later, ends up on Muhame’s ‘death list’ (along with the late David Kato).

And then there’s Kagaba … now there’s a ‘complex character’, if ever there was one.

    * Canyon Ridge, as Warren and I know, tried for months to get Ssempa to ‘behave himself’, but in the end could not, and felt obliged to stop sending the cash.

  17. Jame said, “They kept

briefing him up till the time he

was called to give his account

of the story. In his submission

    the young man looked to

    have been coached because

    he contradicted his

    statements”

That reminds me of the first time those shy boys appeared on the evening news with Ssempa and friends eagerly “helping” them to make allegations about Kayanja.

It also reminds me of the time Ssempa introduced Sandra as an ex-lesbian and got her to read her own very brief story from a piece of paper. Her whole body language and her voice and everything about her statement screamed LIES! …it wouldnt take an expert to figure out what was going on.

The same applies to the time Ssempa brought his alleged ex-gay follower Paul Kagaba into a studio for a televised interview… Kagaba was sweating and unable to construct a single sentence, stuttering aside… Ssempa wouldnt let him speak for himself for 5 seconds.

And in any case, most people dont memorize stuff like phone numbers and bank account numbers anymore… that’s so old school. If I were mugged two years ago and couldnt remember the date on which I was mugged, doesnt mean I wasnt mugged. The fact is, the whole country witnessed the highly suspicious sponsoring-sponsored (not necessarily or strictly financial sponsorship) type of interactions between Ssempa and his lying kids… it was on tv for weeks. Not being able to remember phone numbers and other meaningless specifics from those obvious interactions years ago is a worthless observation, in my humble opinion.

As Gug pointed out, Ssempa and friends are gonna have to discredit the same kids they loudly vouched for as credible. Whichever way this thing goes, those kids have been bribed and or coerced into making false statements… if not about Kayanja, then about Ssempa and friends.

Although he’s well connected, Kayanja does not seem belligerent, obsessed and crafty enough to have manipulated those boys into bending the truth… the same cant be said about Ssempa and his angry obsessive and deceitful rants in which he’s repeatedly lied that boys aren’t equally protected from pedophiles by the law (years after he pushed those boys into police stations to make allegations against Kayanja, surely in the process he must have found out that Uganda’s defilement laws are gender neutral), he also repeatedly lied about invisible millions in pink currency being “powered” into Uganda for the purposes of “recruiting” school kids into homosexuality (perhaps to draw attention away from his own recruitment efforts), he repeatedly lied about corpophagia and homosexuality being the same thing, he repeatedly lied about bahati’s bill prescribing the death penalty only for pedophiles.

If it turns out that these kids are indeed crooked, then one must wonder how Ssempa met them and how he verified what he claims is their story before he pushed them into public attention and started what he must have known would become an ugly and splashy affair… those kids didnt seem half as confident, excited and enthusiastic as Ssempa when they made their initial public appearances.

We’ll see what happens. The truth will come out eventually.

  21. Jame, I find your take on this matter intriguing. I intend to monitor the court drama as it unfolds.

  22. Dr. Warren, why have my comments been kept on moderation for that long? Sometimes they are not published even. Kindly let me what could be the problem because I thought you’ve always given us a balanced ground to give comments.

    1. James – I don’t know why they are not being published. I have removed any moderation from your comments. Perhaps they are going to the spam filter for reasons I cannot figure out. Have you commented more than twice today?

  23. I happened to have attended this court session this time around and right from the onset you could see mixed reactions among the people. First of all the witness was brought in by three CIDs in a tinted window car. They kept briefing him up till the time he was called to give his account of the story. In his submission the young man looked to have been coached because he contradicted his statements; for example he couldn’t tell where Ssempa’s Church was, he didn’t remember the time(YYMMDD) he met Ssempa, Kyazze, Male and others. Actually the fifth Pastor Robert Kayiira wasn’t mentioned at all. The witness couldn’t remember his own account number, branch of the bank, and the account name. He also didn’t know his own phone numbers. Eventually he ended up revealing that he stays in Bweyogerere(a city suburb) at a place rented by the police(Police has initially denied this). That is where he has been for the past two years. His testimony in court hugely contradicted the one recorded at the Police in 2008. A lot awaits the nation in this case and opportunists are already running with the witness’ account as if it was absolute truth. We wait to see what happens next.

  25. Gug makes an excellent point. Ssempa and crue have to label untrustworthy someone once advanced as trustworthy.

  28. GUg – Just seen your piece on the Anglican Primates’ statement(s). No, I don’t think think you owe anyone an apology – that would be ‘necessary’ only of you had preached hatred against Christians in general.

Any word yet from John-Baptist Odama or Cyprian Lwanga?

  29. LOL.

    I am a Ugandan.

Shocked? No. I am a cynical, seen it all before, gay Ugandan.

Martin ‘eat da poo poo’ Ssempa was just too jealousy of Kayanja to get even credible witnesses. And, by the way, it is even reported in the New Vision, which never writes about homosexuality…….

But, the beauty of this is the fact that now Ssempa and co have to discredit the very witnesses that they were using to discredit their fellow evangelical pastor Kayanja.

Irony of ironies…. Oh, how are the might ‘men of god’ fallen!

  33. I visit quite often (family is ‘transatlantic’) – no sure I’ve seen that many puritans! Maybe I just mix with the ‘wrong’ people?!

  34. Richard, you’re not American, are you? I’m not either, though I live here. I’m quoting Casablanca. The phrase means the very opposite of what it says and comes from Claude Rains expressing his outrage that gambling is going on at Rick’s as he pockets his winnings. It seems to me to perfectly express this particular clown car.

  35. I’m shocked, but not surprised; those heretical ‘pastors’ hate each other like poison.

  37. Richard, yes. But long-term resident in the US. I was sent here to atone for my sins.
