Surgeon General nominee, James Holsinger has resigned from his board position with Asbury Seminary. Bible Belt Blogger, Frank Lockwood, is reporting that he will be appointed to his post during the upcoming Congressional recess. Exgaywatch and Boxturtle Bulletin has coverage.

The problem is Holsinger has shown he is willing to subvert science to politics and religion. And he can still do a lot of damage in a year. Imagine if he convinced Bush to divert research funding to people like Paul Cameron. People whose “research” is designed more to support a specific ideology than to advance medical knowledge. Long-term funding that could extend beyond the year Holsinger is in charge.
Does this really matter now? Bush only has about a year left in office – won’t the election change things?
