You are of course free to ‘test God’, but just be aware that there could be consequences that you might not wish to experience.

Just on freedom generally: freedom is meaningless if one is concerned about only one’s own. A free society is not the same thing as a collection of individuals each exercising their freedom in whatever way they choose, and the guarantee of a democratic society is the rule of law.
