Your experience illustrates the key problems with a private, for-profit organization trying to play that role. I guess the follow-up question would be, what organization, if any, is the legitimate or at least functional version of what the AACC seemed at first to be to you and others? There are many places where a profit motive is entirely inappropriate and counter-productive. This seems to be one of them.

I joined to meet others doing the same thing. I also wanted to hear established people and get continuing education credits. I also presented programs at conferences which was a resume builder and a way to test ideas and promote my work. AACC simulates a professional association but there isn’t accountability or meaningful participation in governance. The priorities are those which make money for Tim Clinton. When I realized this and started to see the effects of this, I pulled back. My last effort was the submission of a program proposal which would have presented the damage done by reparative therapy. I submitted it according to the guidelines but I never received a acknowledgment or a reply or a rejection from AACC. Clearly, AACC didn’t like it but even as a member I had no recourse. In any other organization, I would have been able to appeal.

So, he’s been taking in almost a million a year, on top of whatever the for-profit brings in. Covers the cost of those trips to DC, I expect. But…I can’t help but wonder how he spent the money before Trump started inviting him to DC? I suppose there are always “needs.”
