In reply to Russ H. Russ - Jefferson believed in a God but not the God of the Bible. As far as who to trust, all I can do is point you to our book. We wrote it to get these things in one place to make it easy to look at the claims and then the evidence. For Christian scholars the details are important and truth is worth contending for.

So, who’s lying here? You both can’t be telling the truth. All I want is the truth, and I’m willing to search for it myself. I do believe that the Declaration of Independence was written with God in mind. So, if the argument is “How religious Jefferson was?”, these details are minutia compared to the majority belief at the time, and aren’t as important to me except that I need to know whom I can believe and trust. In an age where man is so easily tempted to lie for fame, monetary gain, pride,… it’s hard to know who you can trust. Can you both be right?

Scott Lively has just written an exquisitely deranged attack piece – um I mean Christian love epistle – about you.

Among other things, he pegs you as an agent of homosexuals planted “inside the Christian camp.” You are collaborator and a conspirator. He finds something ominous in the fact that someone retweeted your tweets. And he bemoans that one can now hear the “gleeful cackles as [the gays] pat Warren Throckmorton on the back.” The piece has everything – except any actual criticism of the merits of your refutation of Barton.
