Radio Station in Texas cancels David Barton's Wallbuilders Live During Show

An affiliate radio station of the Moody Network in East Texas, KBJS-FM canceled David Barton’s Wallbuilders Live radio program during the show yesterday while Barton was discussing Glenn Beck’s religious beliefs. Randy Featherston, KBJS manager, said the show was dropped due to Barton’s failure to distinguish between Mormon theology and Christianity.
“When David Barton said it doesn’t matter whether you are a Mormon or a Baptist or a Methodist, we felt we had to do something,” Featherston explained.
On the Tuesday program, Barton played audio of Glenn Beck saying that “the Lord Jesus Christ is my Savior and my Redeemer.” Then Barton said he believed that Beck was a Christian based on his statement of belief and “his fruits,” meaning his good deeds. Based on Beck’s statements, Barton then asked co-host Rick Green, “Glenn says he’s Mormon. Ok, that’s fine. Based on what you heard, if you heard a Baptist say that or if you heard a Methodist say that…what would you say?” After Green answered that Beck’s testimony indicated a real conversion, Barton responded, “Why is it not a real conversion because of the label he wears?”
Throughout the program, Barton dismissed Beck’s Mormonism, saying at one point, “I don’t care what label Beck wears. I don’t care what Glenn thinks Mormon means.” Barton also asserted that Beck uses the same Bible, but added, “Now he may use the Book of Mormon, we never talked about the Book of Mormon.”
Featherston added that the station received many calls during the broadcast with callers who objected to Barton’s views. All but two callers supported the decision of the station to drop the show.
Some callers also complained that Barton misuses history and “takes facts out of context” to create a false impression about the Constitution and founding of the nation, according to Featherston.
Featherston said the station did not take the action lightly, saying “I like a lot of what Barton has to say, but we don’t want to confuse listeners into thinking that Mormon doctrine and Christianity are the same.”

Scott Krus wrote to say that KBJS-FM is an affiliate of the Moody Network but not one of the 36 stations owned by Moody. Mr. Krus added that Wallbuilders Live is not carried by the Moody Network.

  1. Conservatives certainly didn’t question Beck’s religion much back when he was opposing Obama and the health care bill…or when he pushed conservative candidates for the November 2010 elections.
If you are going to have a debate…or a guest who presents opposing viewpoints, then you don’t throw them off of the show because of these views.
Use your God-given debate skills and – point by point – expose the flaws in their arguments.

  2. THAT’S why they pull him? NOT because he is a sham “historian”, and couldn’t string together a truthful historical statement if his life depended on it, but because he didn’t differentiate Christianity and Mormonism?? SUDDENLY the station is concerned with his (lack of) nuance? It would be laudable if it wasn’t so ridiculous.

  3. David Barton is revealing what we have known all along, he isn’t a Christian.
Jesus, speaking of ravening wolves, said in Matthew 7:16 – “Ye shall know them by their fruits…”
The fruit of truth mentioned in Ephesians 5:9 – “For the FRUIT of the Spirit IS IN ALL goodness and righteousness and TRUTH”
When David Barton can get up in front of church audiences and purposely manipulate and then give excuses that are totally illogical, he wreaks of
    JESUIT SOPHISTRY.
I would not at all be surprised if Barton is Jesuit trained.

  4. I guess we don’t need God….we have enough Judges here that can point out who is Christian and who’s not. Looks like bigotry is alive and well. Although, is it bigotry if your speaking of mormons? Maybe not because they are such evil people.

  5. Blather utter nonsense and adopt racist ideology: not a problem. Dare to so suggest that a Mormon might be a Christian: fire him, ban him, get him off the air.
    It’s amusing, but sad.
David Barton has spent years bringing disgrace and shame to the name of Christianity. But few saw need to suggest that his views, his lies, and his arrogance were contrary to the message of Christ. Yet when Barton, in one bried fleeting moment, opted for inclusion rather than condemnation and bigotry this was just too much for the statilon.
I don’t have much use for a huge chunk of Mormon theology. I don’t particularly want to be god of my own planet, for example.
But I also have problems with the theology of Catholocism, the hateful nasty arrogance of the Southern Baptist Convention, the secularism of the Episcopal Church, the small mindedness and uneducated ignorance of much of the Pentecostal movement, the complacency of a good many mainline or moderate evangelical churches, and the general overall way in which Christendom places tremendous importance on the intangible attribute of being “saved” by Jesus’ sacrifice but not much attention at all to Jesus’ teaching or what that sacrifice was supposed to achieve.
And yet, I do not deny their Christianity. If we were to measure as God measures: in terms of love, humility, caring for others, seeking his Kingdom within us, striving to bring acclaim to that which is good and honorable and giving little value to that which is terporal or even simply in the most basic “do unto others”, I’m afraid no one would qualify.
So I guess our standard should be that if God is so very gracious and generous as to call me his child, then I should keep my mouth shut about the shortcomings of others … just in case it encourages Him to take a closer look at the qualifications.

  6. It DOES matter whether or not one believes and adheres to Jesus’ admotion that, “Ye must be born again.” It DOES matter if one believes and adheres to the “Book of Mormon,” Catholic traditon, the “Watchtower Society,” etc.
The way of the Cross, coming in absolute repentance to the Lord, asking for forgiveness and receiving the Blood of Jesus Christ as the propitiation (full payment) for our sins/sinful state of being are NOT optional, and stand completely alone with nothing added whatsoever.
Not one of the above noted cults (Catholicism is the world’s largest cult with its putting traditions of men before and in the place of the Word of God) believes, adheres to and preaches that we must be saved by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.
That is why it DOES matter whether or not one is a Mormon or part of any other man-made religion. To any reader who may be confused about this, please read the entire book of Romans. The Holy Spirit, through Paul, explains this fully and finally. Also, include Galations 1:8 where Paul says, “But though we, or an angel from heaven (ie, Moroni….?) preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Those are the words of the Holy Spirit, not mine.
The above statements may sound a bit terse, but I have, at this point, lost patience with “Christians” who cannot discern between the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Mormonism, etc.
Thank you for your patience in reading this statement.

    1. kathleen – I appreciate your desire for accuracy but I am a little more careful with the word cult than you and ask that you not refer to Catholicism as a cult. Catholics believe the same things about the essence of Christ (who He was and is, the relation to the Father and Holy Spirit), whereas the LDS church has a different view of the origins and essence of Christ. I don’t even like to refer to LDS as a cult because coercion and several other mind control efforts are needed to be considered a cult – at least in the way I understand the term.

  7. Mr Barton has shown us time and time again he has no background in theology or history. Wallbuilders is and always has been about manipulating theology and history for a political end. Beck and Barton…politics makes strange bedfellows.

  8. With the sad state of the world crumpling, becoming more and more unethical and immoral, lying and arrogant, we who profess a love and trust in the Almighty and in His Son, Jesus Christ, need to do all we can to unite on common ground. The adversary wins another round every time the good and righteous people, no matter what Christian label they profess, forget who they are, and belittle themselves by contending, arguing and being quarrelsome, instead of standing tall, true and representing our maker in word and deed, in love and forgiveness. We lose power and are weaker in the cause of truth and Christ when we become petty and fault finding. We have a great battle before us. We are at war. Remember who the real enemy is. Both Glen Beck and David Barton have champion truth, right, freedom and the Love of God, in the best way they could. They deserve better treatment. Yes, they are not Perfect, neither are we.
WE ALL LOSE WHEN TURN ON ONE ANOTHER. HOW FOOLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. THANKS Kathleen McKkeithen, You hit the nail on the head, Keep up the GOOD work !!!

  10. What I know of the Mormons and how their “Christianity” compares with the “manstream” Christians, I find the Mormons are more Christian than any of the so called “mainstream Christians.” They talk of Christ, they rejoice in Christ, they preach of Christ, they recognized Him as the Savior of the world, they believe in His resurrection. Heck, the name of their church is the “Church of Jesus Christ….” And, whenever I’ve had a conversation with a Mormon about their beliefs, they all say the same thing. Talk to a Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic, Pentacostal in California and then talk to one in Toronto, Canada and they have different beliefs. You can’t even get them to agree on who Christ is, what His mission was on earth, his character, his relationship to His Father, His resurrection etc. Good grief, castigate Glen Beck and this David Barton and then remember what Christ said about putting others down! The nay sayers are the ones who need to be shut out and put to bed. Get a clue people, Mormons are more Christian than any other so called Christian Church….at least from what I’ve seen.

“the small mindedness and uneducated ignorance of much of the Pentecostal movement”
Really, Timothy??? I have personally known and have met THOUSANDS of Pentecostals over the last 38 years from the East coast to the West coast and most know the Bible extremely well and many have advanced degrees (some are scientists, engineers, medical doctors, etc.). I have two science degrees.
I would love to debate you face to face in front of an audience some time on what the Bible says and doesn’t say about “the Pentecostal movement”. I live in Syracuse, NY. My e-mail address is [email protected]

  12. We have obtained salvation through Christ and not by our fruits. But by our fruits we are known. Most of us should be ashamed that our fruits do not compare to many of the Mormons I have known. The only one who gains from this dissention in the body of Christ is Satan.
The Parable about the Pharisee and the Tax Collector Luke 18:9-14
9Jesus[d] also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves, thinking they were righteous, but who looked down on everyone else: 10″Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘O God, I thank you that I’m not like other people—thieves, dishonest people, adulterers, or even this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week, and I give a tenth of my entire income.’
13″But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even look up to heaven. Instead, he continued to beat his chest and said, ‘O God, be merciful to me, the sinner that I am!'[e] 14I tell you, this man, rather than the other one, went down to his home justified, because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the person who humbles himself will be exalted.”
    Luke 11:52 NLT
“What sorrow awaits you experts in religious law! For you remove the key to knowledge from the people. You don’t enter the Kingdom yourselves, and you prevent others from entering.”

  13. Correction: Our people would NO LONGER need to listen to truth morsels doled out by quasi-Christians.

  14. Sharon,
Did not Jesus tell the Church to speak out against those that distort His Word? At the minimum, Barton is immature in the faith for not finding out Beck’s true belief about Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches fundamentals about His person, as it teaches fundamentals about morality. The Bible teaches God is a Tri-unity, that Jesus is equally God, His Vicarious Blood Atonement, His resurrection, Biblical inerrancy, etc. They are not negotiables.
Mormons deny four of the five I listed. They are not Christians.
    Warren,
You mention reservations as to Mormonism being a cult. A cult is a group claiming their doctrine is the only way, rather than what the Bible specifically says. In that case, Mormonism is a cult. Moreover, Read Dave Hunt’s book “A Woman Rides the Beast,” and you will see they are a cult also. I live around many catholics, and they are clueless who Jesus Christ is. Many of their children have never heard of the name Jesus Christ. Romanism teaches a person can be saved only within their church. That is still on the books from Vatican II.

  15. @ Delores
I think you’re correct about the need to ‘unite’ around ‘core principles’. The problem I have with people like Barton is that IMO they have departed too much from those core principles (e.g. by saying things that are demonstrably untrue in order to advance an ‘agenda’). There has to be some ‘wiggle room’ when people are seeking unity: meaningful human communities are by their nature diverse, because individuals are to be taken seriously, but there have to be certain limits – ‘disciplines’ of you like – if a community is going to function effectively.
Style of worship in not really an issue, in my view: I and others find more than one style helpful, and what is important is the ‘substance’ behind the ‘style’ – and that’s where the common ground must be.

  17. Theology has been debated from the beginning of time. Even as a small child I realized that all religions were part God-made and part man-made. I now realize that the basis for being a Christian is 1) Believing that Jesus is God, and 2) personally accepting Jesus as one’s own Lord & Savior. I also realize that as imperfect humans we put a preference regarding the manner in which we worship. Some like the rock ‘n roll of the contemporary churches & some like the traditional solemnity of orthodox religions. Just about every organized faith has their own human twist in their worship. Some denominations definitely have anti-Christian doctrines but many of their members, having been raised in that faith, may believe that twist because that is all they have been exposed to. Some members of those faiths may actually have accepted Christ despite the inaccuracies taught from their home churches. However, if we conservatives continue to splinter our different faiths, and fail to unite in the mainline beliefs, and fail to bring in people who do not hold the exact doctrines as we, we will never elect another conservative to political office.

Most of you know nothing about Glenn Beck’s background. Does kicking David Barton off the air bring glory to God? Are the owner(s) / management of KBJS so shallow that they cannot allow the audience to discern the truth and make up their own mind? You that take pieces of God’s word to fight those who you disagree with need a revival. Look at who you have become. Get on your knees; you know it is true.

  22. I feel Sharon’s pain. We Christians in the Tea Party movement who are standing against evil find allies with people like David Barton, Glenn Beck, and John Hagee who speak many truths while speaking some distortions of truth. Perhaps if the evangelical Protestant Church wasn’t so busy merely entertaining attendees while hiding behind an unnecessary 501(c)3 tax-exempt/state incorporation status, the people would actually be given a vision from their pulpits. Our people, then, would need to listen to truth morsels doled out by quasi-Christians.

    1. Randy – Allies should hold allies accountable. If Barton is really an ally, he should not hinder his cause by spreading mostly false information. I have listened to 6 interviews Barton has given and there is only one or two things he says that are accurate. Most of the claims are off. I have tried to contact him, and I know others who have but he brushes it off. He needs to hear from Christians that you can’t win without truth.

“A cult is a group claiming their doctrine is the only way, rather than what the Bible specifically says.”

It’s all perversion & cultic. “Let (Catholicism) be accursed!”

  43. Mr Barton has shown us time and time again he has no background in theology or history. Wallbuilders is and always has been about manipulating theology and history for a political end. Beck and Barton…politics makes strange bedfellows.

  44. It may be misleading to refer to KBJS as a “Moody Broadcast Network station”: While it apparently does carry some Moody-produced programs–and may be branded (by others) as “The Moody Broadcasting Affiliate for Northeast Texas”–it’s not one of the many Moody-owned stations.

    1. EJM – I was going on what the station manager told me. I will look into this as a proper description. Thanks…
