I’ve been in touch with Dr. Grudem by email and will shortly post what he told me on my website.

He may have pastoral support from other friends in his tight-knit theological circle, Reformed folks with a cut-throat approach to business leadership and church growth. But that doesn’t tell objective onlookers who aren’t smitten by Wayne Gruden anything. James’ “exegesis” of 1 Cor 6 is simply a convenient reading to fit his own circumstances and force that passage to NOT apply to him.

In all three diatribes James MacDonald boldly states that he has other pastoral support on this.

In Christianity Today he writes, “A conversation with Wayne Grudem, the widely respected theologian and my seminary professor, helped me understand that we should model our response to criticism after Christ’s ministry (John 8:49) not his road to the cross, when his total silence was a unique fulfillment of prophecy.”

Enough is Enough he claims, “we have contacted many influential pastors and biblical scholars, and received near unanimous confirmation of our thinking.”

“Two Media Questions Answered” he writes, “after 16 mos of reflection and consultation among Christian leaders outside our church family, we decided to… take action to protect our church family.”

Every Christian journalist should be demanding the names of every one of these alleged “influential pastors and biblical scholars” agreeing with MacDonald so that their church flocks can be immediately warned that if they ask questions, their current leadership thinks having a process server bang on your door and serve your wife with a lawsuit against her, is a great idea. We all have a right to know if that is how our pastors and theologians think.Christianity Today published that rubbish but made no effort to get a quote from Grudem.

Every single member at Scottsdale Bible Church should be asking about Wayne Grudem’s alleged approval of this terror tactic. How about it Senior Pastor Jamie Rasmussen? Do you support suing former members and pastors for asking questions or making truthful critical statements?

Thanks, I predict the suit will be settled out of court. I think the church should have to pay the bloggers attorney fees. By the logic of HBC, the bloggers could counter sue since HBC isn’t a church but a religious corporation. A case can be made that HBC has defamed them in the statement issued today /2018/12/01/harvest-bible-chapel-treats-believers-as-non-believers-ecfa-to-review-finances/.

Thanks for supplying it! As you know, that particular resignation represented a significant turning point at HBC. It’s still curious that the Elders excluded this from their published lists of staff transitions. As I understand it, Bill was with MacDonald from the beginning and was a significant financial supporter for many years.

We can add Dean Butters – Executive Director of Business Operations to the list. He left (without formal announcement to the Congregation) in April 2017, according to his LinkedIn profile.

There have also been two terminations in student ministry related to sexual sin, one of which involved criminal sexual exploitation of a child.
