Democracy, actual historical research, and biblical scholarship are all equally threatening to documented fraud and liar David Barton. The self-serving, false gospel of U.S. White Evangelical Self-Worship can't come to an end soon enough.

It is an excellent series and reading it in "real time," as it were, made it easier to connect with their actions and take it all in. I imagine you learned a great deal researching it. The unvarnished truth of our founding reveals far more wisdom than those that incorporate a revisionist view. It also illustrates how, in the case of Barton's "mythology," the revisions are in many ways antithetical to the hard work and ideological aim of the Founders themselves.

Understood in it's best light, these alternate versions of history represent a desire in many to see what they hold dear reflected in the founding of our country - which we also hold dear. At worst, however, is the desire to give one faith an authoritative, special place in governance over the other views. The equal footing provided by the Founders is not good enough for these, and does not provide for the imposition of the tenets of that faith with force of law.

The truth is, where the Founders were concerned with religion at all, it was to safeguard against the tyranny so often associated with it when allowed to mix with government (with which they were well acquainted). Christianity as a cultural influence in this country can not (and should not) be denied, but interjecting it into government in this way is something quite foreign to our most basic founding principles.
