Well, Richard, the trick would be turning these racial resentments into actual political power. So far, that only works for Democrats. Charlie Rangel [D-NY] can still get away with calling the Tea Party “crackers” who just like the Bull Connors who turned fire hoses on Civil Rights Movement marchers.

On the immigration issue–and you bring up churches–I would venture this: Although there is indeed “white” opposition to importing 10-30 million Christian immigrants from Latin America, it’s more for their 3rd grade educations and politico-cultural affinity for socialist government.
I’ll wager that they’d much prefer all the college-educated entrepreneurial Hindus we can get. Although they’re Christian converts, think the quite dark-skinned Bobby Jindal, Republican governor of Louisiana, or the Punjabi governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley—more accurately their immigrant parents, whom I’d guess might still be Hindus.
I mean, Louisiana and South Carolina are southern states! Jindal and Haley put the lie to the power or effectiveness of any league of a “white” South.

Perhaps the REAL questions are: Why are jobs (allegedly) available that US residents don’t want to take, and so are filled by immigrants? Why do some employers apparently prefer to employ immigrants?
