IotC has a following among tea party and related groups in this region. Again, you’re vetting by “provenance,” not “merit.” It’s a good deal of detective work (and out-of-field reading for most) to spot the flaws in IotC materials. The folks involved don’t fact-check Paul Harvey either (cf: fate of signers of Declaration of Independence on Snopes).
In comparison, flaws in the ACLU’s letter to Springboro are easy to spot–including citing the wrong web page. Here’s the page the page ACLU apparently meant; I don’t see it as problematic as, say, using public schools to promote East German values.

In 2009 David Souter called the state of civics education “dangerous.” Three years later he remarked, “We have serious work to do, and it’s serious work that’s being neglected right now.”
Why make the Springboro episode about IotC when we need to discuss education for competent American citizenship?
