In reply to bman. I have no idea if Barton ever spoke about the American Historical Association specifically, but he does have a habit of referring to people who disagree with him (including Warren) as "academic elitists" and making other similar ad hominem attacks.

I understand why you think they -would- call the AHA elitist if it denied America is a Christian nation, but that is not how your original post reads.
Your original post said, “For [Barton]..the American Historical Association [is] just a bunch of “academic elitists” trying to deny that America is a “christian nation.”
It does not read like, “he -would- view it that way if” but it reads like he sees that as how the AHA “is.”
I placed the word [is] in brackets because you left out the verb there.
