then your reading comprehension skills are severely lacking. 1st, he cited 3 different people not 2, Smith, Ignatieff and Koh. The purpose of what he wrote was to show there is no generally accepted understanding of the term “american exceptionalism”. And nowhere in the cited passage does he give any indication that he agrees with any of the 3 interpretations.

Barton’s misrepresentation of your book *MAY* be actionable. I would suggest at least discussing it with a lawyer.

In fact, after I read Dr. Coulter’s extensive quotations of Ignatieff and Koh, I myself tended to think that Coulter supported their ideas.

Only he could have made Koh’s position somewhat clearer telling us that Koh wrote:

“America’s human-rights narcissism, particularly in its embrace of the First Amendment …”, and that Koh hoped Supreme Court might solve conflicts between U.S. libertarianism and foreign countries’ wish for censorship by “applying more consistently the transnationalist approach to judicial interpretation”.

And why not add that famous comment of another critic of American exceptionalism, Dean Steacy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission: “Freedom of speech is an American concept, so I don’t give it any value”?

In short, I think that American exceptionalism is by far the less of two evils and Barton ought to be supported insofar.
