Obviously, Jefferson treated the testaments for what they are: testaments to be held against the Greek philosophers as equals.]]></description>

The Treaty of Tripoli, enacted under President John Adams, clearly states in Article XI that the United States was NOT founded on the Christian Religion.  The Treaty was read in the Senate and published in full in several newspapers of the time.  No one objected:
