No he isn’t. The reasons for denying civil marriage to gays are nothing like the reasons for denying polygamous civil marriage. The only thing that would be the same is that supporters of either have a right to petition the government (through the courts) to provide a constitutionally valid justification for denying such marriage.
Just as supporters of inter-racial marriage did.

At the same time he’s wrong about the First Amendment (and probably about some of those other folks you mention; I know he’s said some nutty stuff), he’s pretty much correct about the Mormon Church once you get beyond his wild guesses about the future.

However, the most recent thing that may have tipped Romney toward the comment was when Fischer said Mormons aren’t protected by the First Amendment.
