If you mean “subscribing to the same doctrines as the Evangelical churches” – then you’re quite right, Unitarians were never evangelical – because we did not subscribe to those doctrines.
If you mean “spreading awareness of the Unitarian faith” – then you’d be wrong, as there have been evangelists for Unitarianism – e.g. Richard Wright, who walked around the Midlands of England spreading Unitarianism and founding churches. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Wright_(Unitarian)
