So, as things stand, it looks like a choice between King Saul, Queen David and President Obama in 2012.
If the USA really wants a monarchy (the American Counter-revolution?), might I tentatively suggest HM Queen Elizabeth II? One could do a lot worse!

Don’t say that Richard! Perry is but a flash in the pan- the GOP will find a worthy candidate to take such a weak president.

I am interested in your comment that President Obama is ‘weak’. It is a comment that probably resonates in some quarters of the Democratic Party.
I would tend to describe him as ‘overly mild’ and perhaps he is too keen to tease out consensus rather than put drive behind clear policy objectives. Maybe he could use a ‘Prime Minister’, so that he could ‘stand above the fray’ and look statesmanlike (which, from over here, he seems to do rather well), while his ‘Prime Minister’ (H. Clinton, perhaps?) provided the drive to get government business through? (I seem to recall that Dick Cheney was effectively US Prime Minister in 2001-9! And he certainly seemed to ‘get things done’!).
How’s that for (political) heresy?!
