All this statement says is that there is no assurance that “all governments on earth will be transformed by the Church before the second coming of Jesus” but does not rule out the possibility. The teaching is that all governments may not be transformed by the Church before the second coming of Christ, but the implication seems clear that some will be.

1) First is says 'there is no assurance' and then it says 'WE REFUTE that the church will take over all governments..."

2) I agree that it 'does not rule out the possibility' but it seems to be a statement linking directly to 'what does the Bible actually say'...since the Bible doesn't say that 'the church will take over all governments' but neither does it say that 'the church won't take over any'. In my mind they simply didn't speak to anything other than the misguided doctrine that the church will take over all governments.

3) I can't find the implication in their words that some governments will be taken over.

It is true that they said
We believe that believers in this age are called to serve Jesus in politics and to help establish righteousness and justice in legislation.

but to suggest that basic political involvement implies 'take over' or a desire to 'take over' seems to be stretching it.

Beyond these minor exceptions, however, I agree with your concerns and I agree that we need to be wary of a Dominionist agenda.

I just don't get the "Kingdom of God" notions that so many dominionists seem to endorse. I understand the kingdom of God to be in the hearts of believers, not a bureaucracy with laws and policemen.

Surely Jesus did not offer himself as a sacrifice so that God could set up how much a parking ticket should be. If Christianity is not about the heart and is instead about the department of sanitation, then what good is it? We could replace the faith with an able administrator and be done.

And if God can create the universe, why would he want to be President or King of some nation? What a small petty god some of these folk serve.
