I completely disagree. It matters if the letter is a fraud - which it probably is since no one has been able to find the people involved. It would certainly matter to many if somehow the Epistles were proved a fraud. I did not say the issues were invalidated but it certainly does distract. In fact, if it were real, and the writer was forthcoming, the atmosphere surrounding Sally Kern would be different. The boy would have represented a very real visable factor for Kern to contend with.

If this is a fictitious letter, that would be unfortunate, as the fraud would distract from the issues it raised.

Do you know how many unverified letters there are in the world that haven't been verrified that we read and cite on a regular basis? If we were to find that the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans was fraudulant, that wouldn't take away from the issues it raised, because someone in the Vatican would be able to write a very good treatise on how the idea of a "letter" is a metaphor. Similarly, someone who cared enough about these letters could write a spin article about how, while they might be fake, they do represent a population of people.

I think that when a person has hit the point where all they can do is challenge the veracity of the letter pointing out their crimes, then it's time they just pack their bags and ride on out of there.

Just as an aside - the full transcript of Sally Kern's screed is at http://www.equalrightsproject.com/

She's not just against Gays:

Another thing that I’m real big on that is a real detriment to this society is evolution. Evolution undermines Christian principles. Period. That’s all there is to it. You either believe there is a creator or you believe there isn’t.
