Perhaps not trust. Or at least not entirely. But they do deserve credit for disavowing them.

In the meantime, it strikes me as just plain silly for EXODUS, NARTH and the like to complain that the media, the APA and or other organizations won’t give them proper respect. What have they done to EARN it? In light of alliances with Cameron, Cohen, Schoenewolf, Nicolosi, Berger and the like, people should completely avoid “reparative therapists” who are now or who have been alligned with NARTH or EXODUS.

Some will say, but didn’t EXODUS disavow Cameron? Didn’t they dump Cohen? Shouldn’t we trust them now? NO. EXODUS is still alligned with NARTH and NARTH has not disavowed Cameron. Let’s see a track-record of several years of sound judgement — and not just knee-jerk reactions to one public relations disaster after another.

It can be understood why some social conservatives have in the past listened to the Camerons, found their views about homosexuality to be in allignment with their own, and believed their claims of emperical evidence and study. However, as closer inspection of the Camerons has shown the Camerons to be less than strictly honest, lacking in objectivity, faulty in their research methods, and now possibly sharing the idealogical views of one of the greatest monsters in recent history, there is no longer any excuse for relying on or propogating the “work” of the Camerons.

Responsible social conservatives will do what Bill Bennett and Exodus (after far too long) did and disavow Paul and Kirk Cameron and their claims. They will heed Dr. Throckmorton’s call to credibility and clean up their act.

Some, of course, won’t care. They will consider the anti-gay nature of the Camerons’ reports to be adequate justification for their dissemination.

But then we will then know who has absolutely no credibility whatsoever.

EXODUS AND NARTH continually whine that that can’t get respect. How can NARTH, EXODUS and the like ever hope to get public and professional recognition if they are not willing to do the work?

The Camerons may actually find something accurate at some point but I would never trust it until confirmed by an independent team.

Which is precisely why we should trust NO organization, “scientist” or therapist who is now (or has ever been) associated with Cameron or has cited Cameron’s work in support of their “therapy” or “ministry” — UNLESS THIS ORIGANIZATION HAS CLEARLY DENOUCNED CAMERON AND HAS BEEN “CAMERON-FREE” FOR AT LEAST TEN YEARS — of course, this excludes almost the entire ex-gay/reparative therapy movement.
