					<description><![CDATA[Interestingly, the 3 dissenting Justices dissented because they felt there should be same-gender marriage rather than allow for Civil Unions.  So all 7 Justices agreed that  same-gender couples deserved marriage benefits.

However, the opinion doesn&#039;t state what happends if the NJ Legislature doesn&#039;t act in 180 days.  I imagine if that happens the licensing authorities in NJ may start issuing marriage licenses to same-gender couples, or a lower court judge may order that to happen.  This possibility might spur the pro-gay marriage forces in the Legislature to try stalling any civil unions laws.  It will be interesting to see what happens either way.
