Bachmann avoids ex-gay therapy questions again

Today, at the National Press Club, Michele Bachmann was asked about her husband’s clinic. She avoided the question again.

This time there was no shoving or tossing mics, but she again dodged the issue.
Of course, these are fair questions for people to ask. She will get these questions until she can come up with some narrative about the clinic that will satisfy the media. Obama had to deal with his church, his business dealings (Bachmann is co-owner of the clinic), his family, his birthplace, etc., etc., and so will she. When he didn’t answer questions, his opponents insinuated he had something to hide. None of this is strange or new. What is remarkable to me is that after three weeks she still has no coherent reply.

If adults go to their clinic wanting help with unwanted Same Sex attractions, it is not against the law for those patients to receive counseling for that. They have said it is not the main focus of their psychological counseling business. They have been asked the question and they answered it. What more is there to say? And I am certainly no Bachman fan, not at all. The problem is her delivery, she is like a robot.

SG, I agree pretty much with what you’ve said. And, I don’t necessarily think this is a minority opinion. But, that doesn’t really matter.
If some of us who have unwanted same-sex attractions want help in resolving this very important issue, we have every right to pursue therapy, counseling, spiritual guidance, whatever. We have every right to pursue that therapy unmolested by others. If some of us believe NARTH, Bachman, Exodus is an approach we find congruent with our goals and faith beliefs, then we have every right to pursue this; and, hopefully, pursue our goals without harassment and ridicule. In a perfect world, those of us (therapists, as well as clients) involved in all this, pay attention to what is and what is not possible with therapy … but, even so, people have a choice. Bachmann provides another way. So be it.
Furthermore, plenty of people see same-sex sexual behavior as wrong. Candidates to whatever office in our government have an obligation to let “we, the people”, know their position on important social issues, economic choices, and foreign policy stances. Michele Bachmann should be able to state her views without harassment, ridicule, and vitriol.
I can understand, in part, how this became an issue; but, at the end of the day, for me personally, I’d rather see this whole thing put into proper perspective, and die off. I don’t think the Bachmann’s ‘hate’ gay persons, simply for being gay (homosexual, same sex attracted). I believe they see acting on the attractions as harmful …. to the person, to others, and to society. This is a valid opinion and matches many, many persons’ faith belief.
In my opinion, we know what Michele Bachmann believes about this issue … let’s move on to other issues.

“They have said it is not the main focus of their psychological counseling business.”
They also said they didn’t do that counseling at all. The whole “you have to just accept what I say, you aren’t allowed to look behind the curtain” doesn’t go over well with many people.
Bachmann touted her clinic as proof of her small-business acumen, and since she brought it up, I think we are allowed to try to go behind the curtain and see just how she is profiting from it.
“If adults go to their clinic wanting help with unwanted Same Sex attractions, it is not against the law for those patients to receive counseling for that. ”
In many cases it also isn’t against the law to take advantage of desperate people, doesn’t mean we want it to happen. And if Bachmann is doing that at her clinic I think the public has a right to know about it.
