The plan is to “spread the wealth around” - Obama

Obama to plumber: “”It’s not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody that is behind you, that they have a chance for success too.”

I saw this first at Breitbart.tv

Wealth

This is why learning more about Obama’s ties to the New Party and Democratic Socialists matters. I hope the S-word comes up in the debate this week.

  1. Whats so wrong with that? Its not old school socialism, its called capitalism with restraints… Fox news is amazingly old school, guess it’s not a suprise, only uneducated Republicans (Not the smart ones) actually watch Fox…

Spreading wealth is a pre-requisite for the overall wealth of a country… Socialism in the sense that Fox tries to talk about is dead… Over… Done…

  2. Isn’t the church socialist in it’s fundamental doctrine? Share your wealth? I always thought so. Or maybe I should keep all my money for myself and not share with those in need? Am I confused on this christianity thing?

  3. The church does not nor should it have the coercive power of the state to enforce “generosity” and “sharing.”

No, we should give to help others but I do not believe in coerced re-distribution based on state sponsored goals.

Why don’t you try the same logic with your extended family. Take everybodies paychecks, deposit them in a bank account and dole out equal amounts of cash to every member of your family.

Why do I get the feeling that your family would be flat broke in 20 years because personal initiative would plummet?

  5. Warren,

People don’t give enough, simple as that, when I was homeless and kicked out by my parents, the people that shunned me the most were Christians. It was all my fault, everything, their ‘love’ was to ignore me and hope I went away to find Jesus, which would magically make me better and self sufficient.

Does that mean no Christians give? Of course not, but I certainly was never on the end of any religious based charity. They wanted nothing to do with me, I was kicked out of several homeless shelters run by churches simply for being what I am. I am wary of ‘charity’ because of the lack of it displayed by so called ‘charitable organizations’.

  6. Pathia,

Did you reach out to the gay community and their charitable organizations for help during that time?

  7. Wrren,

Then by the same standard of coercion, the church should not impose it’s standard of marriage onto the state?

  8. What I am saying is….. there’s a huge contradiction and tone of hypocrisy creeping in to the christian message when it separates out coerced social welfare and coerced marriage definition. Sounds like a lot of people don’t want to give of their wealth and want to demand that others marry in the way they define.

  9. Ann,

In the south? I don’t think there are any GLBT shelters in Virginia. There is maybe one or two clinics in the entire state. Also in many sections of the gay community there is an disdain if not hatred for transsexuals, especially by the ‘established’ and older aspects of the community. We’re traitors to them, and mutilators of our bodies.

    Pathia,

I did not know this and it makes me very sad. I wish I would have known you then and could have offered you the help you needed.

  11. Taking local, state and federal taxes into account, the top 20% pays around 19% of their income in taxes. And the bottom 20% pays… 18%. So much for progressive taxation.

And this doesn’t even begin to account for the ever-growing gap between rich and poor.

Is this what creeping socialism looks like? Looks more like Brazil to me.

  13. Mary,

“Then by the same standard of coercion, the church should not impose it’s standard of marriage onto the state?”

    I couldn’t agree with you more!!! :)

  14. Fox and Friends? Give me a break. All I have to say is consider the source :)

  15. Drowssap -

“Why don’t you try the same logic with your extended family. Take everybodies paychecks, deposit them in a bank account and dole out equal amounts of cash to every member of your family.”

Bad and imperfect analogy. The state/federal governments don’t take ALL the money and put it into a pot and distribute it evenly - what they do is take SOME money and try to help those that are down and out.

Americans are in so much debt its unbelievable. Few people save anymore, and far too many people live outside their means. We are a country of debt and debtors. The country is in debt up to its ears, not because of social programs, but primarily because of defense spending.

  16. Well, defense spending and the ridiculous tax refunds that sent us further into debt.

  17. Pathia,

At my house, you are welcome! As long as you are good to my cats - that is. I too am sorry that you have suffered. Gays are becoming as much of a “you don’t fit in with our kind” group as any. In fact, I am finding them to be more and more repressive in their attitutudes, opinions, views, outlooks etc… It is not the community I left so many years ago.
